Macklem-Wilkin-Morley-Charbonneau-Tough-Cole - my maternal side. This Macklem branch originated in the village of
Darkley, Keady, County Armagh, Ireland with Benjamin who came to the US from Ireland, moved to
Upper Canada and settled in Hornby, Esquesing County, Ontario. Benjamin
and his wife, Jane Isabella Wilkin and their children, William John (my
grandfather) and his sister, Mary Theresa Ann (married Peter Morley) are
listed in the 1861 census for Halton, Esquesing Township, Ontario.
Mary Theresa Ann and Peter Morley moved to Dauphin, Manitoba at the turn of
the century and their descendants still reside there. An Isabella
Macklim (note spelling of last name) is listed in 1856 as being a member of
the Farlton Baptist Church in Hornby, Ontario. Benjamin returned
to the US to settle his affairs and was apparently drafted into the army during
the Civil War where he was killed. Jane 'Isabella' remarried in 1865 to Baptiste Ambrose Charbonneau
and this is where the Charbonneau-Tough-Cole families comes in. I have searched endlessly to verify
Benjamin's service in the American Civil War
and to-date have not been able to do so.
